Indigenous Open Mic Poetry Night

Event description

  • Arts and entertainment
  • Campus life
  • Free

In partnership with the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing, the Labriola National American Indian Data Center will be hosting our biannual Indigenous Open Mic Poetry Night! The event will take place Thursday, February 29 from 6-8 p.m. We are featuring local Indigenous poets Ayling Dominguez (Nahua) and Amber Bleaser-Wardzala (Anishinaabe).

Both poets are creative writers and artists. Ayling is a mixed-media artist whose work is "experimental in nature and guided by Indigenous Futurisms, as well as interdependence and systems of care." Amber is a fencer as well as an avid beader, whose work has been worn by Joy Harjo for Harjo's closing event as United States Poet Laureate.

Join us in person in our new Labriola space on the second floor of Hayden Library!
