Join the Arizona Historical Society, ASU Library's Black Collections, and the Black Family Genealogy and History Society to recognize the impact of Black communities in Arizona with a Juneteenth Celebration. Community members will connect with each other and a variety of organizations representing historical societies, action groups, state resources and the community at large.
Enjoy live performances and a panel discussion, explore the museum's exhibits, visit tables and vendors from local community groups, engage in arts and crafts and connect with other community members.
A special one-hour panel discussion on the theme of “Our Arizona Story” is scheduled to begin around 10:15 a.m. Panelists include Joy Johnson, former Vice-Chair of 48 Women and long-time Arizona business owner; Quinton Jenkins, long-time Arizona resident, international model and coach, activist, and entrepreneur; Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Lauren Guyton; and Lee Henry Jordan, Regional Midwest and Minnesota State Director of the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation. The moderator for this panel is Nichet Smith, who is the Principal of Public Relations, Purchasing and Business Development for Level 3 Design Group.
Community tables will be available for guests to visit from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Live performances by dancers, singers, and spoken word artists will occur from 2 to 4 p.m. See rising film star Aubrey Marie Scott, international singer and artist Sandra Bassett, local gospel singer Joyce “The Voice” Bailey with choir, and a medley of talented dancers telling Our Arizona Story.
Food and beverages will be available starting at noon on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend!
