- Professional and career development
This session introduces the fundamentals of large language models (LLMs) and their potential to enhance qualitative research. Participants will learn how LLMs work, how they interpret and generate language and why they are well-suited for tasks such as thematic coding, content analysis and discourse interpretation.
Drawing on a growing body of academic literature on LLMs in qualitative research, the Unit for Data Science and Analytics at ASU Library will explore how these models can streamline time-intensive processes and unlock new possibilities, while also addressing their limitations and challenges.
Designed with social science and humanities researchers in mind, this session is open to anyone interested in applying LLMs to qualitative work. No technical background is required. Bring your curiosity about LLMs and their effective use in research.
