Monteverdi’s and Striggio’s “L'Orfeo” is based on the Greek legend of Orpheus, and tells the story of his descent to Hades and his fruitless attempt to bring his bride Eurydice back to the living world. Originally written for a court performance during Carnival in Mantua, Italy in 1607, it is among the earliest Italian operas to be written.
Music by Claudio Monteverdi; libretto by Alessandro Striggio; stage direction by David Radamés Toro; music direction by Brian DeMaris; choreography by Molly Lajoie.
This show is suitable for all audiences. Sung in Italian with supertitles.
