MIXiversary Extravaganza and Día de Los Muertos

Join us to celebrate Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center’s one-year anniversary with a day of family-friendly workshops, screening, demos and more, timed to align with Mesa Arts Center’s Día de Los Muertos Festival

The MIXiversary Extravaganza will bring together family, community and academia for an open house of fun technology-based activities.

  • Visit real and imagined destinations in an immersive installation from Volvox Labs.

  • Learn about Storyboarding with the director of the film Vivo.

  • Visit an installation on the Space Station and learn about space with SpaceX Pilot Dr. Sian Proctor.

  • Visit our Fabrication Lab to make an optical illusion kit.

  • Share memories and see them appear visually in ReCollections by Weidi Zhang and Rodger Luo.

  • Explore gender dysphoria through a full body VR experience with award winning experience Body of Mine.

  • Perform in a recording studio and experience immersive soundscapes with Sonora Audio Lab.

  • Visit Mars virtually and check out groundbreaking haptics in the METEOR Lab Showcase.

  • Try on some Día de Los Muertos Masks and regalia in Augmented Reality with TechnoLatinx’s Martha Mendizabal.

  • Learn about film making, robots, AI and virtual reality, share memories of lost loved ones, try our Trivia Wheel and more!
     

MIXiversary Schedule: 

  • MIX Center Open House: noon–5 p.m.
  • Mesa Art Center Performances and Vendors in the park: 10 a.m.–5 p.m. (see the lineup on the Mesa Arts Center website).  
  • Indie Film Fest 6–8:30 p.m.
