While much work has addressed some of the complex dynamics between the religious and scientific communities, very little of this work examines how Black/African American individuals, who identify as religious at higher rates than the general population, view these issues. We interviewed 144 Black students, including 110 undergraduates (including Biology, other STEM, and non-STEM majors) and 34 graduate students (Biology/other STEM fields), to examine how Black students view the relationship between religion and science, as well as how it affects their participation in STEM. We oversampled Biology majors, given the historical tensions between religion and science affecting Biology. In this webinar, we plan to share findings on how Black undergraduates and graduate students from a variety of religious and non-religious backgrounds studying Biology and other STEM fields view the relationship between religion and science.

In partnership with the School of Life Sciences (SOLS).
