The Seeking Justice in Arizona Fall Lecture Series brings in experts from our local communities to discuss critical national issues in an Arizona context.

In session one on Sept. 6, Jennifer Jermaine, San Marcos Justice in Chandler, Arizona, will kick off the series with "Complexities in Cases of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People". She will reflect on her pursuit of justice for murdered and missing Indigenous people through local, state, and federal legislative and community-based efforts. Drawing on her family's personal experiences, she works towards raising public awareness about the multiple generational effects of the disproportionate rate of violence against Indigenous women and girls.

In session two on Oct. 23, J.J. Rico, Chief Executive Officer for Arizona Center for Disability Law, will speak on "Advancing Disability Rights". Rico will explain why he pursues disability justice through the legal enforcement of the Americans with Disabiliies Act (ADA), and how these local and national efforts have changed - and stayed the same - since the ADA went into effect thirty-three years ago. He also will share his personal story about why this work matters to him, and what he sees as next steps and other avenues for the disability rights and justice movement, given the possibilities and constraints associated with cause lawyering and litigation.

In session three on Nov. 13, Christy Moore, founder of Social Spin Inc., and Glynda Henderson, chief changemaker for the Social Spin Foundation, will join the conversation with their presentation on "Redefining Laundromats: Building Connected Communities for Economic Justice". Join this discussion to discover how purpose-driven laundromats are catalysts for healthy, engaged communities, offering safe spaces where neighbors connect and access vital resources, including clean clothes. Learn about the synergy between the benefit corporation, Social Spin, Inc., and the nonprofit Social Spin Foundation, working together to ensure universal access to essentials. Explore economic justice and community empowerment with Moore and the Foundation's Chief Changemaker Glynda Henderson.
