Meet Hua Wei, Assistant Professor in ASU’s School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence. His award-winning research in data mining and reinforcement learning is shaping the future of AI, with publications in the world’s top conferences and support from the NSF, DoE and DoT. Most recently, he earned the prestigious 2025 NSF CAREER Award and Amazon Research Award.

Reinforcement learning (RL) has excelled in gaming, robotics and language models, but applying it to real-world problems, especially in urban settings, comes with challenges like limited data, generalization and practical constraints. In this talk, Wei will share how their team is tackling these issues through uncertainty quantification, language model integration and real-world testbeds to move spatio-temporal analytics toward truly actionable intelligence.💡
