Telling Your Data's Story: Data Visualization 101 with Python

Event description

  • Professional and career development

You’ve gathered the data, asked the questions, and found some meaningful insights. Now the real challenge begins: how do you help your audience understand your discoveries? That’s where data visualization comes in. Thoughtfully designed data visualizations can transform your results into a compelling story that your audience will find hard to forget.

Join the Unit for Data Science and Analytics at ASU Library for a three-hour, hands-on workshop where we will explore how storytelling through data visualization can help you transform complex information into clear and compelling narratives that engage your audience. In the first half of the session, we will cover best practices for communicating with data, including selecting the right visuals, highlighting important points, and using your visualizations effectively. You will also learn how storytelling principles can make your results more persuasive, memorable, and accessible. The second half will move from concepts to application. Using open-source Python libraries such as Matplotlib and Seaborn, you will create your own visualizations and see how design choices shape meaning and understanding. No prior coding experience is needed; we will make the activities accessible to beginners and experts alike.

We will conclude by sharing some of the many resources available through the ASU Library to support your ongoing growth in data visualization and communicating your research. Whether you are a first-year student preparing to present a project or a seasoned senior refining a capstone presentation, this workshop will help you share your data with clarity, creativity, and confidence. Interested? Register, bring your laptop, and tell your data’s story.
