Writing Grants with Matthew Hulver (The ASU Knowledge Enterprise)

In dialogue with IHR Director Ron Broglio, Matthew Hulver, Vice President of Research with ASU's Knowledge Enterprise and Professor in the College of Health Solutions, will discuss the critical skills, intentional approach and vital vocabularies needed to succeed in today's competitive grants landscape. 

Matthew Hulver is the vice president of research, responsible for identifying and deploying strategies to grow and diversify ASU’s research enterprise, which is one of the fastest growing in the nation. He is also a professor in the College of Health Solutions who has studied the adaptation of human metabolism in response to changes in diet and physical activity. He comes to ASU from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he most recently served as the executive director of the Fralin Life Sciences Institute from 2020-2021. Hulver was also a professor in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise and served in various leadership roles since his hire as an assistant professor in 2006. He served as an assistant dean in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, co-director of the Center for Transformative Research on Health Behaviors, department head and director of graduate programs with the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise and director of Metabolic Phenotyping Core at Virginal Tech. Hulver holds a bachelor’s degree in fitness management from Marietta College, a master’s degree from McDaniel College in exercise science and a doctorate in exercise physiology from the University of Kansas.
