Prolific Young Adult (YA) author and illustrator Xavier Garza leads this workshop on visual storytelling. Designed especially for middle- and high-school writers and their teachers, the workshop is open to all with interest.

Garza's 20+ illustrated bilingual novels include books in the popular "Maximilian and the Mystery of the Guardian Angel" series featuring Mexican lucha libre wrestlers.

The spring 2023 Young Authors' Studio events are supported by a grant from AZ Humanities, to project founder Wendy R. Williams, associate professor of English in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, as well as gifts made to Young Authors' Studio through the ASU Foundation.

Additional events in the spring series include a Zoom workshop on  Feb. 11, 2023 at 1 p.m., on writing a novel, led by YA novelist Tom Leveen; and an all-day writing retreat at ASU Polytechnic campus on Feb. 18, 9:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m. The afternoon of the writing retreat coincides with ASU Open Door events at ASU Polytechnic campus and will feature a spoken word poetry workshop and open mic with poet and teaching artist Tomas Stanton.
