About the Zomia Center and the Redress Program: The Zomia Center is a U.S.-registered nonprofit organization with a staff of about 170 people (the majority based in Syria) who carry out a range of humanitarian, public health, research and advocacy projects in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Zomia was founded in 2017 by a group of journalists and researchers to address the challenges of service delivery in ungoverned and semi-governed spaces. The Zomia Center's Redress Program helps civilians in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan access Pentagon processes for acknowledgment and redress of civilian harm in U.S. operations, including condolence payments from a $3 million annual budget.
