“Notes on Viardot” is a kind of jukebox opera that looks back at the life of one of the 19th century's most famous opera divas, Pauline Viardot (1821-1910). Characters such as Georges Sand, Charles Dickens, Clara Schumann, and Camille Saint-Saens make their appearance, along with the love of her life, the great Russian writer Ivan Turgenev. Much of the opera is told through the music she sang, including Mozart, Gluck, Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini and many of her own compositions.
