About the lecture: In a lecture and performance, Jewish music historian and pianist Neal Brostoff will present an overview of music of the Polish-Jewish experience. The illustrated lecture will consider popular, klezmer, classical genres, and Polish-Yiddish tangos. Mr. Brostoff will also perform Sirota, a recently commissioned work for solo piano and historical recording by the Russian-American composer Lev Zhurbin.

This free community festival celebrates the hip hop community in the Phoenix area. With 3v3 Freestyle battles and choreography competitions running all day, Sol Power culminates in a Saturday night party featuring live DJs, graffiti artists and dance competitions—all set against the backdrop of the ASU Art Museum's stunning architecture. Sol Power is an empowering opportunity to celebrate the culture and creative intelligence within communities of color. Come join us for this free community event!

Emerging Artists I presents original choreographic work by third-year dance graduate students Brandon Lombardo and JP Alejandro. Please note: There is some audience participation in each piece.

Participants from our Poetry at the Piper House Fall and Spring series events will share their writing. There will also be an open mic at the end for anyone who wants to share their work. Enjoy refreshments and mingle at this celebration.

Pinna Joseph and Charles Lewis
Pinna Joseph, voice, and Charles Lewis, piano, will perform a concert of jazz and tunes from films. In addition, there are favorite tunes and a number of songs and chants from various cultures to add to the mix. Dwight Kilian, upright bass, and Claribel Cone, cello, will join the fun.


 

Nick Cartell: A Thousand Spotlights

Nick Cartell, currently starring as Jean Valjean in the North American tour of "Les Misérables" in the iconic role he has now played over a thousand times, triumphantly returns to his hometown Scottsdale to play ASU Kerr.

This playful, quirky, loose adaptation of "The Little Mermaid," about a Little Rain Cloud who falls in love with a human, explores the struggles of unrequited love. Meanwhile, a queer writer, Dolan (modeled on Hans Christian Andersen) reveals his personal struggles with relationships in this story about love and passion.
