The ASU Swette Center for Sustainable Food Systems is partnering with Waste Not

Did you know that between 30-40% of the food that is produced in the US is thrown away every year? And that it comes primarily from households and the retail sector such as restaurants and food service companies? This food waste significantly contributes to global warming and represents a substantial loss of natural resources used in its production. Additionally, it results in billions of dollars in economic losses, equivalent to 130 billion meals.

The Barrett staff will be giving a warm welcome and an introduction to our incoming Downtown students and are committed to making their time at Barrett an unforgettable experience. Come and see us when you arrive, and let's get you all settled! We've got a whole range of perks and goodies for you!

Students will have the unique opportunity to learn from Laura Jakubczak and utilize iNaturalist — a powerful tool designed to aid in the identification of plants and animals while gathering valuable scientific and conservation data. There will be snacks and water provided to enhance your experience.

Barrett, The Honors College Downtown presents an opportunity for all to celebrate and learn more about the history of the Day of the Dead! Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday to honor the dearly departed and reunite them with the living. It’s a cultural tradition indigenous to Mexico, dating back thousands of years to the earliest and most glorious civilizations in Mesoamerica. Join us for food, face painting, machachi and an altar for our community's loved ones.

Every last Friday of the month there will be a time from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM to chill and build your calendar with your program coordinators with snacks and refreshers in the conference room. This is your designated time to come together with your program coordinators to relax, debrief and prepare for next month.
