The opening for our new season in ArtSpace West is Wednesday, October 5 @ 7:00pm.

IAP faculty alejandro t. acierto’s new installation titled "Strategies for the Evasion of Capture" uses photographs, video, sculpture, and performance to look, metaphorically and actually, at pugos, a unique low-flying bird from the Philippines that consistently remains obscure from photographic capture.

Their elusive nature poetically opens the possibility of other realities, other existences, or different ways of being that do not rely on colonial contact. This installation draws from archival television news footage, interviews with prominent zoologists, and historical ephemera in an exhibition that gestures to contemporary discourses around visibility and the tensions embedded in surveillance cultures.

After the opening reception on Wednesday night (refreshment will be served), the installation is open Mondays-Thursdays from 12noon-5pm through October 27. For more info, go to https://newcollege.asu.edu/artspacewest.
