ASU Sparky Slam
Arizona State University’s Sparky Slam is a valley-wide spoken word poetry contest featuring original work by students in grades 5–12.
The purpose of the Sparky Slam is to welcome young people onto a college campus, celebrate youth voices and provide young artists with writing support from ASU faculty and students. This year, a writing workshop for the youth performers will take place right before the slam. ASU students will work with these performing poets in small groups to offer encouragement and advice. Pizza will be provided for youth at this workshop.
The 6 p.m. event will be emceed by spoken word artist Tomas Stanton of Phonetic Spit.
Poets in grades 5-12 who wish to perform in the Sparky Slam and participate in the pre-event workshop must pre-register, and they should do so as soon as possible to guarantee their spot.
