Lessons from the Politics of Hate

Event description

  • Academic events

How does political hate spread, and what does it mean for the future of American democracy?

Join Angelia Wilson, a Professor of Politics at the University of Manchester, for an in-depth discussion based on her book The Politics of Hate: How the Christian Right Darkened America's Political Soul, Wilson explores how organizations on the Christian Right have developed a theological rationale for “war talk,” normalizing political hate and mobilizing faith communities as powerful political actors. She’ll unpack original data and financial analysis to show how these strategies shape civic life, and discuss what students and citizens can learn about the intersection of religion, politics, and democracy today.

This event is co-hosted by ASU's Hispanic Research Center and the School of Politics and Global Studies
