Join The Sidney Poitier New American Film School for a special Speaker Series engagement with Emmy Award-nominated director Randal Kleiser and Emmy Award-nominated producer Michael Peyser as they discuss the new frontier of emerging technologies in filmmaking. Kleiser is a member of the Sci Tech Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and his varied filmography (“Grease,” “Flight of the Navigator,” “Honey, I Blew Up the Kid”) has been at the forefront of technical innovation.

Before the screening, costume designer Mona May will join ASU FIDM Museum curator Kevin Jones for a special conversation on the film’s fashion legacy and the lasting influence of Cher Horowitz’s iconic closet. During the screening, guests will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase a copy of Mona May’s new book, The Fashion of Clueless, and have it signed.

Poor, hungry peasant Macario wishes to have a good meal on the Day of the Dead. After his wife cooks him a turkey, he meets three apparitions — the Devil, God and Death — who asks him to share his meal.

The great Dolores Del Rio, an icon of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, plays a dual role in this 1946 Spanish-language classic as identical twins — one good and one bad. The real drama starts when the bad sister starts to covet the life of the good sister and devises a plan to steal it. This event is part of The Poitier Film School Latino Screening Series, showcasing gems of Latino Cinema in partnership with Milagro Cinemas.

The stirring documentary from directors Jon Shenk and Bonnie Cohen follows highly decorated Navy SEAL Marcus Capone, whose struggles with PTSD after returning home from Afghanistan inspire him and his wife Amber to pursue groundbreaking psychedelic therapy that provides hope and healing for suffering veterans. 

"Becoming Interplanetary" is a journey into one of humanity’s oldest impulses: the desire to explore. It reflects on how curiosity, creativity, and the simple question “why?” have carried us from caves to spacecraft and now toward other worlds.
