LEAD Day Conversation: State-Level Advocacy in Social Work
As part of Social Work Month and LEAD Day, BSW and MSW students are invited to a live non-partisan conversation with Montserrat Arredondo Duran, BSW alum and Director of the Pastor Center for Politics and Public Service at ASU, exploring why state-level advocacy matters and how social work students can take action now.

What makes a powerful love poem sing? In this generative workshop, participants will examine several contemporary love poems that explore romantic or familial love and work with prompts inspired by the work of Patricia Smith and Sharon Olds. Registration is required. No pre-work or previous experience in poetry is required.

 

Siobhan Jean-Charles is the Poetry Editor for Hayden’s Ferry Review. Her work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and her poetry is published or forthcoming in AGNI, The Cincinnati Review, Passages North, and elsewhere.

Jorn Trommelen, PhD, works as an assistant professor at the Department of Human Biology at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. He is involved in research and education regarding the impact of exercise and nutrition on muscle mass and function. His research is part of the M3 research group and focuses on exercise and nutritional interventions to augment exercise performance and training adaptations in athletes. His primary research line focuses on using stable isotopes to assess carbohydrate and protein metabolism in humans. 

 

A reflective poetry workshop designed for social work students and professionals to explore themes of resilience, empathy, and lived experience. Participants will use creative expression to process emotions, build connection, and strengthen reflective practice. Presented by ASU SSW Alumni Heather Burcham.

This event is open to all Barrett, The Honors College students. Interested in becoming a Barrett Mentor for Fall 2026? Attend a Barrett Mentoring Program information session to learn what the role involves, how mentors support first-year students, and how the program helps returning students grow as leaders while earning honors credit. Information sessions will cover mentor responsibilities, time commitment, course enrollment, and the application process. These sessions are the best way to decide if the Barrett Mentoring Program is the right fit for you.
